Oct -- camping

The first weekend of October we went camping with friends at Cunningham State Park. We cut it short one night (due to Greg's cold), but we enjoyed our time there immensely. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful...

Sept 18 - 21 -- Dewey Beach (again)

We love the beach!! After our exceptional time in Williamsburg, this was icing on our whole vacation experience. We had a wonderful time together:)

Sept 18 -- Chesapeake Channel Tunnel

A new adventure! We took the Chesapeake Tunnel from Virginia Beach to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. It is 12.5 miles of bridges and tunnels (2 tunnels about a mile in length each). Our next stop -->> Dewey Beach:)

Sept 15 - 18 Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown

This year we decided to take advantage of the Home School days at Williamsburg. We are sooooo glad that we took this trip -- it was so much fun (and very educational)! They enjoyed grinding corn, making candles, and taking in all of the sights and sounds.

We had a super time at Jamestown Settlement! We started out with a wonderful 2 hour tour (thanks to our awesome tour guide). We walked through a re-created Powhatan village, re-created fort and the replica of the Susan Constant, Discovery and Godspeed. We learned a lot that day:)

A wonderful day at Williamsburg. We toured the Governor's mansion (couldn't resist the maze), learned about brick making and other various stops along the way:)

We met up with the Williams in Williamsburg (that has a great ring). The kids and dads ran around a field at William and Mary, listened to a bit of fife and drum (thanks to a Constitution Day celebration), and generally had a great time. Check out the cool gourds behind Abby and Helena!!

Our last stop was Yorktown. The kids had an hour long class (Ben and Tay in one class and Abby in another -- split by grades) about colonial life. I stayed with Ben and Tay and enjoyed the fashion show (don't they look colonial)! After the classes we walked around a re-created Continental Army encampment(the dental equipment used by the soldiers really made the kids squeamish) and a re-created 1780s farm (they enjoyed watering the garden with gourd spoons). We had a great time!!
